A traditional Christmas season beverage

3 oz Dried Sorrel

10 Cups Water

1 lb Brown Sugar

10 Cloves 

2 oz Fresh Ginger 

¼ Cup Rum or Brandy (Optional) 



Add water to a large pot and bring to a rolling boil. In the meantime, remove any foreign matter from the sorrel and rinse thoroughly with tap water. Put sorrel in a colander or strainer and allow the water to drain. 


Add the washed sorrel, ginger and cloves to the pot, lower heat and allow to boil for 15 minutes. Turn off the heat and allow it to steep for 10 hours. Strain the sorrel mixture and sweeten to taste. Add rum or brandy.


The sorrel beverage is best served chilled.
